French Country Estate

Submitted on 10/10/2007 by Michigan Geothermal Energy Association.

When considering the utility bills of building a home this size (8,000 sq. ft.) the owner considered geothermal heating and cooling (to be) the only logical choice.

The cost of installation (four separate geothermal systems) was roughly the same as it would have cost for a gas system.

Despite the home's size, the geothermal environment is "very comfortable", states the owner, "what I don't get when walking from room to room is a cold room."

Due to his combination of blown-in cellulose insulation and geothermal environment the insulation manufacturer -guarantees- his utility bills to be no more than $1,500 for heating and $600 for cooling per year.
